After our President's Weekend trip I started researching towns and houses everywhere in and around Milwaukee. Upon a second visit to the area for a job acceptance meeting we visited the towns that we thought we'd like as well as towns that a realtor recommended. Driving around towns was mentally and physically exhausting. I had no idea how we were going to make the right choice of where to settle down with our family. But I'm glad we looked everywhere because we narrowed our search to a specific area.
Here's how we bought a house sight unseen.
(If I was tech savvy enough to screen shot I would but I'm not so here is our text conversation)
Husband: New 4 bedroom two blocks from Lake Michigan on Realtor site no pictures yet $140,000
Me: What city?
Husband: XXXXXX
Me: Fine. Buy it. I prefer (different city here) but I'm done. It only has 1 bath but there is room upstairs so maybe we can add one. The yard is smallish. But the basement is 1/2 finished. Super close to high school. Has air conditioning.
Husband: Doesn't need work.
Me: If it's 1 owner and there are no pictures I'm betting it's dated, might need work but just cosmetic.
Me: I like that it's not alley parking. Let's just buy it and be done.
Husband: Our Realtor is doing a video tour at 3p today and will send it to us.
By the time Husband had found this house I was done. We hadn't even set foot in a single house but I was already over the house hunt. After we watched the videos we put in an offer over asking (because we weren't messing around) along with a letter to the seller. Here's our "letter" to the Sellers: (Again, not tech savvy...that's what staying home with kids for nearly 8 years does to a person)
The house was only on the market for 1 day and there were 4 offers on the table. Our realtor contacted us to see if we wanted to change anything but we decided to let our offer ride and see what happens. We were not the highest offer. In fact, we were literally discussing a new house buying strategy when we heard that we got the house. We couldn't believe it...we had been put out of our misery!! We had a place to move our family!!
So we had a place to live...now what?
