Last Beach Day of This Summer

After looking at the 10 day forecast we realized Friday was our last hope of having a morning beach day with the boys this summer.  They start school Tuesday and the next 4 billion days are predicting rain/thunderstorms.  Super fun.

Here's our last morning beach day.  We were the only ones there when we arrived.  The kids were excited to find the "river" stopped up with logs and rocks from a recent storm.  Here they are trying to move a HUGE fallen tree.  Looks like a stick in the picture but on the other side of the "river" is a tiny drop to the lake.  It was a big tree that wasn't budging.

See that group of people at the top of the photo of Hayd?  That was what I can only guess was some sort of mommy-kid play group.  There were 9 moms and about 24 kids.  One mom chased her kid around with a container of blackberries asking, "Are you hungry? Do you want a snack?"  Clearly she didn't understand that the kid just wanted to play at the beach. Plus, I'd bet that if he was really hungry he wouldn't be quiet about it.

Then there was another mom that brought her kids to the beach in their clothes.  Did she not read the memo that this weeks play group was at the beach?  Didn't matter to the kid, he stripped down to his Superman underwear and called it good.  The mom was mortified.  I thought it was on point for a kid brought to the beach in his clothes.  She should have been glad he was wearing underwear.

While our kids were playing with a tiny log/tree in the "river" some of the play group kids commandeered the log.  Pax came up to me all sad face, "Mom, they took our log."  I told him to get it back.  So what do my kids do?  Not only do they get the log back but they one-uped the play group kids by setting log free in Lake Michigan.  Our kids team worked the log up and over the big log dam in the "river" which was not an easy feat.  It was perhaps the biggest act of team work and you're-not-getting-my-toy we've ever seen from our kids.  Jed and I were impressed even though it was kind of a jerk move.  But it was a fitting end to our last beach day.

Steps to/from the beach

We'll still make it to the beach but only on weekends from now until next summer.
